There are hundreds of little signs that tell you summer is approaching: the days gradually get longer, you hear the ice cream truck ditty for the first time, the farmer's market opens. But the one thing that heralds the return of warmer days for me is the sudden need to bathe my kids every night. "Really?" You ask, "Every evening?"
You'd bathe your kids every evening too if they looked like this:
He has dirt in every single crevice. And don't even get me started on the worm, that's the least of my concerns. No matter how many times Elena and I tell him, "worm, Eli. It's a worm," he is convinced that they are teeny tiny snakes. He likes to put them in your face while saying, "ssssssss."
I love that it's the time of year to throw open the doors and send children out into the world barefoot. I love that they come in at the end of the day dirty, sticky and ready for a good night's sleep. I don't even mind the daily baths.
Eli? He minds the daily baths just a little bit.
