Thankful for You

The Six Family

Dear Readers,

On the eve of this Thanksgiving holiday, I want to take a moment to let you know how thankful I am for each and every one of you. It’s hard to believe, but this month this little blog celebrated its seventh anniversary (any of you around who remember it on Typepad as Page Six?!). I can’t even begin to count the blessings this blog has brought to my life, including the community, the dear friends I would’ve never met, and the joy I get each and every day from writing. All because you care enough to read, comment, and share Just Like The Number with your friends. I know this space can be a hodge-podge sometimes, and I so appreciate you sticking around even when you’re not a fan of some kinds of content. I know some of you can’t stand football, I know some of you cringe at sponsored posts, but you support me through and through and I love you for it. If I could sit down to pie and coffee with each and every one of you I would!

I hope you have a wonderful holiday with your family and friends. When I bow my head to give thanks for all the blessings in my life, know that you are counted among them.

With Love & Gratitude,
Angie

The Answer is Always “Just Dance”

Picture this: it’s a blustery cold afternoon. Your house is full of kids with too much energy and nothing to do that doesn’t involve running in circles around you. You’re happy to have them doing something other than huddling over the iPad or staring blankly at the TV, but you’re starting to lose your sanity. The answer? Just Dance Kids 2014.

Picture this: you have a long-standing love affair with Just Dance, only now your kids have figured out you’re having all the fun. They want to do it with you … only you’re worried some of the songs might not be 100% appropriate for your kindergartner. The answer? Just Dance Kids 2014

Picture this: you really, really miss The Wiggles. If only someone would bring them back so you could get your Hot Potato back on! The answer? Just Dance Kids 2014

Just Dance Kids 2014

No matter what the scenario, if you have younger kids and a Wii, Wii U, or Xbox 360, Just Dance Kids from Ubisoft is just what you need for kid-friendly entertainment that will have them moving and giggling. We’ve been Just Dance fanatics for years. And even though Eli has been bustin’ a move right alongside of us for many of those dance parties, he loves having a version just for him and his friends. It has simple menu icons he can figure out on his own. Songs range from preschooler favorites up to some of today’s biggest pop hits. You have the ability to create custom playlists to keep the kids dancing non-stop, and up to 4 kids can play cooperatively at one time.

And I’m sorry, but even on the gloomiest, coldest of days, if watching little booties shake to “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)” doesn’t make you smile, you need a serious Just Dance intervention.

Whether you need a fun holiday gift or a sanity-saver for the long winter days ahead of us, Just Dance Kids 2014 is definitely the answer.

My Family, My Holidays

This post is written in collaboration with Minted, a wonderful source for your holiday cards, gift wraps, and unique gifts. While I was compensated for this post, all thoughts and opinions are mine.

A few weeks ago I had my dear friend Julie take our family photos. Julie and I have known each other since 1982!!! Go ahead, just let that sink in a bit. How long and intertwined are our lives? We played with each other on the elementary school playground. We endured middle school together. We dated brothers, went to prom together, took drivers ed together, played doubles tennis together. We’ve cried through breakups together. We were in each other’s weddings. Julie was there when Eli came into this world. We’ve held each other through sadness and shared some of our happiest moments together.

To say that Julie knows my family well and gets us would be the understatement of the year. And there’s no one I’d trust more to take our family photos. She and her partner, Kristina, are the creative force behind Red Thread Photography. If you live in central Indiana I highly, highly recommend them. And I’m not just saying that because Julie stayed my friend through big glasses, pegged jeans, braces, and mile-high bangs.

These are just a handful of my favorites. I’m not sure how I’m ever going to narrow them down to a reasonable amount to put on our holiday cards!

Speaking of holiday cards, have you started thinking about yours yet? I’m feeling especially on the ball, since we’ve had our photos taken and I’ve already picked out my favorite cards from Minted. Every year I drool over their selections, thanks to their unique business model of crowd-sourcing the best independent designers from all over the world.

For even more eye candy, be sure to check out Minted’s own blog, Julep (just be sure to get your Pinterest pinning finger ready!). Every year we make a list of things we want to do as a family over the holidays, both so we don’t miss out on beloved traditions and so we don’t overschedule ourselves. I’ve always written the list out on a sheet of scrap paper and stuffed it in a binder … until I took a look at this beautiful DIY scratch-off Advent calendar.

How are your holiday preparations coming along? Do you like to get things done way ahead of time or are you more of a fly by the seat of your pants kind of person?
